Visit to Wat Maha Chedi in Bangsaphan District


Wat Maha ChediOn the 07 March 2008 we have made a trip from Hua Hin District to Ban Krut Village ( บ้านกรูด ) in Bangsaphan District about 200kms south from Hua Hin. We went up to Thong-Chai Mountain, on which Wat Maha Chedi (Thabg-Sai Temple) is located.

Abbot of the temple Tan Atikarn Maitree Thitipanyo said that this temple has been established in 1984, and Pra-Buddha Kitisirichai have been started on 09 January 1990. On 06 June 1996 Buddha's bone has been enshrined in the temple.

Pra Tharti Jedi Pakdi Prakart (Wat Maha Chedi) name to the temple was given by HM the Queen. The temple complex was designed by Prince Mitraroon Kasemsre who was Artist of the Nation and has worked for HM the King. On 6 June 1996 Royal Princess Somdet Pradhep Ratana Rachsuda Siam Borom Ratcha Kumaree has laid the foundation stone for the temple.

For the 50th Anniversary of HM the King on the throne Chairman of the monastery (President of Supreme Court) Khun Sawatdi Chotipanitch together with monks and Ban Krut residents has build a huge statute of Buddha.

Wat Maha Chedi was build on 3 rai plot. The temple has in total 9 chedies build in Lanka style but the temple buildings are build in traditional Thai style. 

Abbot Atikarn Maitree said that this temple is visited everyday by many Thai and foreign tourists. Many tour companies have tour to Wat Maha Chedi. To commemorate HM the King 80th birthday anniversary the temple committee is planning to build big Jade Buddha in Kantharah (Indian style). Anyone wishing to participate in this project can donate money to the temple.
