Interview with The Provincial Chief State Attorney

Somchet Srisupphatphong Provincial Chief State AttorneyI would like to introduce The Provincial Chief State Attorney of the Attorney General Office, Mr. Somchet Srisupphatphong. Previously he has worked as the Assistant District Chief Officer of Bangsaphannoi District, Assistant State Attorney, State Attorney (Crime Section), Deputy Provincial State Attorney of Chainat Province, Provincial Chief State Attorney of the Attorney General Office, Samut Songkram Provincial State Attorney Office and now he is the Senior State Attorney at Prachuap Khirikhan Provincial State Attorney Office.

I had a chance to talk about law matters with him. I have told him that there were a lot of foreigners living temporarily and permanently in Hua Hin, at least 3,000 families. Many of those foreigners run businesses like selling land, houses or are tour operators. Unfortunately, some of them run their business in not an honest way and are exploiting their innocent customers. Some foreigners have cheated Thai people, some Thai people have cheated foreigners or Thai ladies (wives) defrauded their foreign husbands.

The latest case was that a foreign husband has married Thai lady and has made a contract that the wife must live with him until his death. Then, the husband had another wife and invited the new wife to the house, but the first Thai wife could not take it and have thrown them both out of the house. Finally, the husband sued his first wife and he won the case, so that she must sell the house to pay her husband has betrayed her. The State Attorney said “never think that a foreigner is the stupid” and some Thai ladies should not think to marry for their own benefit. A lot of couples, Thai and foreigners have many disputes which end up in the court. Mr. Somchet has added that he is happy explain the Thai law to Thais and foreigners.
