Biography and Message from the Inspector of Hua Hin Tourist Police.
My name is Pol. Maj. Jaturapat Bhiromkaew. I have studied for my Bachelor degree in Public Administration at the Royal Thai Police Cadet Academy. On the educational leave, I have studied for my Master degree in the same subject at the Portland State University, Oregon, USA. At the same university, I have continued my study for my Doctoral degree in Urban Studies and Planning.
My governmental service record after the educational leave is as follow: I was an aide to the Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 9. Afterwards, I was transferred to Crime Suppression Inspector of Phayathai Police Station, Bangkok, before I moved to take the position of Tourist Police Inspector in Hua Hin.
Making the general public safe and making sure that everyone can walk freely without fear of crime is a challenging issue for police. In my opinion, it does not necessarily mean that the police have to be responsible for the whole process. Instead, everyone can take part to make the community where in he or she lives to become a safe place. I would like improve the performance of the tourist police (and other police agencies) so it becomes internationally well known for it reliability. Besides enforcing law, police should be able to assist communities to be free from crimes, provide appropriate security trainings and establish the neighbourhood watch program. Knowing that the police resources are limited, I have decided to encourage people to become police volunteers. I give lectures and teach practical skills to the community. I have trained about 130 volunteers so far. They came from all walks of life, most of them are already in the tourism industries (e.g. hotels, restaurants, security and travel agencies).
Tourism is very important in Thailand. I specifically denounce those who commit crimes against visitors and/ or take advantage of visitors, noticing that the visitors are unfamiliar with the locations and thus can be naive. Please be caution about where you are traveling to and use your personal judgment in trusting people you have met. For our part, Tourist Police can guarantee that we do our best to protect and serve the community.
