Elections to Thai Parliament


On Sunday  23  December  2007 Prachuap Khiri Khan residents woke up to take part in the parliamentary elections. In the morning Governor Khun Prasong  Pitulkitja, Vice Governor Khun Suhtipong Terdratanapong, Pol Major General Wirat  Watchara-Khajorn and government officers have inspected election boots and rules for voting.

The government officials have been reminded that they need to stay alert and prevent any voting buying attempts. Governor and government officials have had a meeting before Election Day with villagers and have explained to them that voting buying is illegal.

At 6:30pm Thai TV gave update on the unofficial results of the constituency candidacy (total 400 seats) throughout Thailand:

People Power party -- 220 seats
Democrat -- 162 seats
Chart Thai -- 40 seats
Puea Pandin -- 30 seats
Ruamjaithai Chartpattana -- 13 seats
Matchimathipataya -- 10 seats
Pracharaj -- 5 seats

Unofficial results of the party-list candidacy (total 80 seats)

People Power party -- 34 seats
Democrat -- 33 seats
Chart Thai -- 4 seats
Puea Pandin -- 7 seats
Ruamjaithai Chartpattana -- 1 seats
Matchimathipataya -- 0 seats
Pracharaj -- 1 seats

Update Sunday 10pm Thailand time:

People Power party (PPP) continues its lead as 92 per cent of votes have been counted as unofficial results showed PPP wins 228 seats while its rival Democrat party gets 166 seats from a total of 480 seats of both constituency and party-list candidacy. Chart Thai party wins 39 seats so far while Puea Pandin party gets 26 seats, Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana wins 10 seats, Matchimathipataya has 7 seats and Pracharaj has 4 seats.

Final election results:

PPP won 232 seats
Democrat Party won 165 seats.
Chart Thai Party won 37 seats
Puea Pandin Party won 25 seats.
