A passenger train bound for Bangkok from Trang has derailed at Khao Tao, 14km south of Hua Hin, killing seven people and injuring dozens more. Injured passengers had been rushed to hospitals in Prachaupkhirikhan province. All of those killed were thought to be Thais.
The cause of the accident was still unknown. Six of the train’s 16 carriages went off the rails at about 4.50am in heavy rain. The accident closed the southern railway route. Rescue and medical teams rushed to the site to help the injured passengers. Train services between Bangkok and the South have been suspended following the derailment.
Injured passengers were taken to Pranburi Hospital (tel: 032-621-757), Hua Hin Hospital (tel: 032-523-000), San Paulo Hua Hin Hospital (tel: 032-532-576) and Thanarat Hospital (tel: 032-621-341).
