On 29th of January 2009 early in the morning Thai immigration police has arrested Mrs Janpen Oxley, the alleged mastermind behind the attempted murder of Donald Whiting, at Aranyaprathet on the Thai-Cambodian border. She was trying cross into Cambodia. The immigration officials have found over three hundred thousand baht in her luggage.

Oxley is alleged to have been involved in a war of words with Mr Whiting on an internet forum, which is said to have left him furious at the damage done to the reputation of his company.
