This year the Infantry Center celebrated 103rd Anniversary of Infantry Center Establishment on Wednesday 10th of June, 2009 at Infantry Center Building. Lt.Gen. Adul Ubol from Army Training Command has presided over the opening ceremony. During the ceremony Infantry Center rewarded outstanding officers for their excellent performance.
Infantry Center is an educational section of Army Training Command. It has a long 103 years history since the reign of King Rama V (1906). Infantry Center has been developed and improved in various aspects including renaming its name from Inspector General Department to Infantry Center.
Infantry Center used to be located at Somdet Phranarai Maharat Military Camp, Lopburi Province, but it was then relocated to Thanarat Military Camp, Pranburi District, Prachuap Khirikhan Province in 1967.
This center is regarded as the main source of military education. Its Infantry School train soldiers to serve in Royal Thai Army. Training arrangement is provided for every infantryman ranging from Army Non-Commissioned Officer Students to other higher ranks. Moreover the center has continuously researched and developed other strategies and weapons for infantry training. The center was rewarded for the excellent research and excellent officers and lecturers recruitment.
This year the center will organize the first action seminar for army non-commissioned officers in the hope of enhancing effectiveness of infantrymen who are the backbone of the Royal Thai Army. Also will take place recruitment of candidates for national security and stability unit under the command of Maj.Gen. Niwat Meenayathin, the present Commanding General of Infantry Center.
\Besides already mentioned duties, the Infantry Center is also assigned as Addiction Treatment Center by the government, for treating drug addicts. The camp is also open for tourists as recommended in the Royal Thai Army's policy. Tourism activities provided in the camp include adventure, eco-tourism, natural and historical trails and sports; golf, swimming, shooting and camping for students from educational institutes.
