TOT will provide Wi-Fi internet connection for Hua Hin


On Saturday 14 February 2009 at 11.00 a.m. on the first floor of Market Village Vice Managing Director of TOT Khun Surakiat Pumooung and his staff held press conference about TOT Wi-Fi for Hua Hin. Initially Wi-Fi internet connection will be provided in the area of 12km long between Ratchapat Suan Dusit University and Sailom Hotel. Later on it will be extended to the whole of Hua Hin.

Khun Surkiat Pumpoung said that Wi-Fi system in Hua Hin will provide free internet community service for education and tourism at a speed of 100 kilobits per second (kbps). This will allow easy internet communication for tourists coming to Hua Hin for holidays. From August 2009 Wide Access Co will offer premium fee-based services such as wireless voice over IP and video streaming at a higher speed of up to 1 Mbps. After registering users will be able browse for 60 minutes at a time after which they will need to log on again.

To get the free service, users have to register as members to receive a user name and password that will pop up automatically when they log on to the Hua Hin City Wide portal site. Another way of starting up is to register by way of a short message (SMS) to 488 6999, to receive a user name and password for the Bt3 cost of an SMS message. Each user name and password will be valid for three months and will have then be renewed.

The wireless city project would cost Bt75 million over five years, or Bt15 million per year. In the first year of operation, the office of the Hua Hin Municipality has already contributed Bt5 million.
