On Friday 23 January 2009 in the morning at Hua Hin Public Park, officials from Prachaupkhirikhan Province, Department of Livestock and Hua Hin Municipality have arranged chicken fair as part of their ongoing campaign promoting eating of chickens in the Province. They run this campaign under slogan ‘Travel to Hua Hin and eat chicken during Chinese New Year 2009’.
On Friday at 8 a.m. Vice Governor Khun Apinan Janthrangsi, Lord Mayor Jira Pongpaibul and Department of Livestock Officer, other government officials and students from Ratchapat University have carried banners promoting eating of chickens during Chinese New Year. They have marched around Hua Hin center and went inside of the Chatchai Market. There, Vice Governor and Lord Mayor have presented to the sellers of chicken safety certificates which confirmed that the poultry is free of bird influenza. Then they have marched back to the Hua Hin Public Park.
In the park Department of Livestock Officer and Lord Mayor have reported to the Governor that all chicken on sale in Hua Hin is free of bird influenza. Then Governor Khun Panchai Borwornratapran said that he is very pleased that the Department of Livestock run checkpoints on the main road in the Province in order to ensure that any livestock transported of through Prachuapkhirikhan Province has appropriate safety certificates. Governor said that Chinese New Year will be held on 25 January 2009 and all Thai or Chinese can eat chickens with confidence as all poultry on sale in Hua Hin is free of bird influenza.
During the campaign three elephants turned up to entertain everybody in the park. All Thai and Chinese residents came buy chickens which were sold at promotional price. In total almost 500 chickens were sold.
