On Tuesday 13 January 2009 at 2p.m. around the Phone Kingpet Park officials from Prachaupkhirikhan Province and Hua Hin Municipality have arranged press conference to assure public that it is safe to eat chicken.
Vice Governor Khun Apinal Jantrangsee has announced to the journalists and Hua Hin residents that the Department of Livestock Development has requested its Provincial officials to let people know that it is safe to eat chicken and that chickens are free of bird influenza. Staff working at the Department of Livestock Development monitor livestock transported on trucks through Phetchaburi and Prachaupkhirikhan Provinces. All trucks carrying chicken are stopped at checkpoint set up in both Provinces and documents regarding livestock being transported. So far they have not stopped truck carrying chicken without the correct documents. Any driver carrying livestock without the right documents will be arrested immediately.
Next Khun Sethakiat Krajangwong officer from the Livestock Department said to the people that procedures in place are very strict and official are making sure that those involved with the transportation of livestock follow these procedures.
Lord Mayor Jira Pongpaibul has assured Hua Hin residents that chickens are free of bird influenza and can be eaten safely during the forthcoming Chinese New Year be held on 23rd January 2009. He said ‘don’t worry about the chicken’.
Then the officials gave fried chicken to Vice Governor and Hua Hin Mayor to eating. They have prepared also boiled chicken to feed three elephants. Vice Governor gave the elephants chicken to eat. The journalist and Hua Hin residents were fascinated when they saw the elephants eating chicken. Normally elephants eat just grass, bamboo and all type of fruits. Perhaps chicken is tastier.
